Greenwood Christmas Tree Farm is a future, cut your own Christmas tree farm started with plantings in 2022 by Jen and Jarrett along with their four boys. They will have cut your own trees that grow in Richmond, Virginia and precut Frasier Firs. Join the Young Farmers for a cookie and tour to learn about their new farm start up and The Greenwood, their Christmas barn, where they plan to create a nostalgic Christmas experience.

James River Agribusiness (VA DOC Farm)

The Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) has numerous farms across the state associated with prisons and work centers. James River Agribusiness, also known as the State Farm, spans across the James River in Goochland and Powhatan Counties just west of Richmond. This farm operation is over 3,000 acres and hosts a dairy herd, milk pasteurization plant, meat processing, beef production, crop production, lumber production, James River Horse Foundation (retired thoroughbreds), and a garage/machine shop. Utilizing inmate labor allows the DOC to lower food costs and save money. The farm also provides inmates with on-the-job training, preparing them for re-entry into the workforce. James River Agribusiness processes milk from the Virginia Tech dairy and has been a filming site for many movies and TV shows.

Service Projects- West Creek

• Take part in AITC’s Farming on the Fringe Service Project to connect urban school children to Virginia agriculture and farming. This project embodies the spirit of the theme by serving those truly on the fringe. Learn about food deserts, how to promote farm-to-lunchbox movements, and help prepare Agriculture Literacy Week kits to be donated to educators in the Richmond City Public School system.
• Help box up donated canned goods for delivery to FeedMore, Central Virginia’s core hunger-relief organization. Feed More collects, prepares and distributes food to our neighbors in need throughout Central Virginia. Their comprehensive programs and network of more than 270 nonprofit partners and agencies work across 29 counties and five cities to help ensure our community has access to healthy food year-round.
